Cheap Day Out… Surrey, UK

FINDING somewhere to teach your kids to ride a bike can be tricky in London and its surrounds. But Brooklands park on the Weybridge/Byfleet border is the perfect day out / learn-to-ride location. What used to be a plane runway (close to the ex-British Aerospace factory, which is now home to the quirky Brooklands transport museum complete with half a Concorde), was – a few years ago – converted to what my family calls ‘the scooter park’ – endless tracks and pathways perfect for unrestricted cycling for kids and adults. My little ones both learned to ride here – aged 5 and 3 – in the space of a day (although balance bikes were involved before that), and it’s still our go-to for a half day’s riding… Plus it’s totally free…
